Capital “I”, dang it!

I have a pet peeve and that is – the word “internet” should always be capitalized when preceded by the definite article “the” as in “the Internet.” It should be uncapitalized when preceded by an indefinite article as in “an internet” or when referring to the word itself and not a network. I cringe every time I read “the internet.” It’s a capital “I”, dang it!
